Location:
Varna is a district town, situated on Varna Bay in the north part of the Bulgarian Black Sea Riviera, 450 km north-east of Sofia.
Varna’s geographic location and closeness to all types of transport are the reasons for establishing a duty-free zone. Most guests of the Bulgarian Black Sea resorts arrive at Varna airport, it takes 40 min from the capital city of Sofia. Varna is also connected to all main railway lines in the country.
Climate:
The climate is strongly affected by the sea. It is relatively mild and pleasant. The sun shines as long as 331 hours in July and 313 hours in August. The air temperature varies between 18 and 31 degrees Celsius from May to October. The average temperature in July is 22,8 °C. The average sea water temperature is about 24 °C.
Transportation:
Varna has good connections to the national railway and road network. Varna is also the biggest and most important Bulgarian port.
Sightseeing:
Varna is Bulgaria's Sea Capital. The town offers various attractions that are well worth seeing, especially the Seaside Park - the biggest park of Varna, situated by the beach. Within the park area one can find the Seaside Baths, the Navy Museum, the Museum of Natural History, the Aquarium (unique exposition of water organisms - Black Sea, freshwater, tropical fishes), the Astronomical Observatory and the Planetarium that offers stars’ observation shows for visitors, the Dolphinarium with an amusing show, Numerous shops and restaurants in the town cater for every taste.
Another place of interest close to the city is Pobitite Kamuni (Rammed Stones), 18 km west of the city. The stone figures were formed by erosion about 50 million years ago and are preserved in various forms of fossils. |
