Location:
The town of Tryavna is situated in the northern folds of the Balkan Mountains, at an altitude of 440 m above sea level. The climate is suitable for treatment of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
The town lies halfway along the Sofia-Varna road /250 km/. A major railway line linking North to South Bulgaria runs through it. Daily buses and trains connect Tryavna with Sofia and Gabrovo.
Climate: The climate is moderate by the mountain with short summers and long winters. The average temperature during January, the coldest month, is minus 2 °C and during the summer 28 °C.
Sightseeing:
The historical and architectural preservation in Tryavna is among its main attractions. Some of the best examples of buildings from the Bulgarian Renaissance period have been well preserved. The seven museum collections contain unique pieces of art from the late medieval period, such as icons and woodcarvings.
In Tryavna and surrounding vicinity there are many places where one can find the unique beauty of the Renaissance period; among architectural and historical highlights are: the Old Square, Slaveikov street, the Kachaunska neighbourhood and Tepavitsite square, Skortsite village, the temples of St. Archangel Michael and St. George, the unique museum - Daskalov's, Raykov's, Angel Kunchev's and P. R. Slaveikov's houses, Staroto Shkolo (the old school) and the Museum of Icon Painting and Wood-carving, art exhibitions of Dimitar and Nikola Kazakovi, Nikolai Maistorov and Ivan Kolev, the Gubenskies' collection of pictures. |
