Location:
The Town Of Teteven is situated in the NorthWestern folds of the Central Balkan Mountains. It stretches out for 12 km along the Vit river valley. Regular buses run from Sofia (110 km) and Lovech (70km).
Climate: The climate of the region is temperate continental with cold winters and comparatively warm summers. Nothern and northwest winds prevail.

Interesting sights of Teteven are: the historical museum, “Vsiah Svetii” church and the chapel next to it, “St. Ilia” monastery built in XIV century, the picture-gallery in the centre of the town, Authentic houses of Bobevskata, Lorgovata and Hadji Ivanovata.
St. Prophet Elijah Monastery (14th century AC) is situated in the northeastern section of Teteven at the foot of Ostrets massif. Glozhene Monastery of St. George is among Bulgaria's biggest monasteries, but it may well be classed among the most inaccessible ones. It takes about an hour to climb the winding footpath from Glozhene village (12 km from Teteven) up to the monastery itself.
Teteven’s nature is fascinating and picturesque with beautiful flora and fauna.
There are two nature reserves on the territory of Teteven Municipality. Boatin and Tsarichina nature reserves are part of the Central Balkan National Park.
Century-old woods, steep, in some places even vertical rocks, meadows, waterfalls, caves. It offers perfect conditions for hunting and fishing, skiing, cycling and hiking.
Traditional Crafts such as woodcarving (wooden wine vessels, kegs, distaffs, wooden bowls and low wooden tables), turnery, weaving, whittling, harness making, jewelery are being demonstrated at Teteven’s Autumn Fair - held traditionally in the first weekend of October. |
