Location:
Stara Zagora is one of the most ancient settlements in Europe. It is situated in Central Southern Bulgaria. Its territory encompasses the vast fields of the Upper Thracian Lowland and parts of the Sarnena Sredna Gora Mountain. The town is located 231 km east of Sofia and 90 km northeast of Plovdiv. The nearest Black Sea harbour is Bourgas (180 km to the East), the nearest Aegean Sea harbour Alexandroupolis (in Greece) is about 300 km away and the nearest duty free zone is in the town of Plovdiv (80 km to the West). You could reach the capital of Bulgaria, by traveling 210 km along the “Trakia” high road.
Climate: The climate is temperately continental, with some elements of Mediterranean influence and an average annual temperature of 12,8 degrees Centigrade. The municipality enjoys short, mild winters and dry, warm summers.

The administrative centre Stara Zagora is the largest town in the Upper Thracian Lowland. It serves as a central connection of the Bulgarian railway network, which connects it with all Bulgarian towns, and also with the towns of Eastern and Western Europe.
Ayazmo Park, one of the landmarks of Stara Zagora, is situated on the southern flank of the Sredna Gora mountain in an area of 950 acres. The park has over 150 rare and exotic species of vegetation.
The Starozagorski Mineralni Bani (Stara Zagora Mineral Baths) is a balneological resort, situated 15 km to the northwest from Stara Zagora, in the south of Sarnena Gora (Sredna Gora). |
