Location:
Rousse is situated on the south bank of the Danube. Rousse is a major centre for transport. The Danube waterway was connected in 1992 to the Main River and the Rhine River via Europe Canal.
Rousse is located 210 km north-west of Varna 330 km north-east of Sofia and 295 km north of Plovdiv and their International Airports.
Climate: Rousse has temperate continental climate with hot summers, cold winters and short autumns and springs. The average annual temperature is approximately 22 °C.
Sightseeing:
Rousse is the centre of an administrative region. The town is very attractive for the guests and tourists visiting it with its historical and cultural landmarks.
Durring the Renaissance it was a cultural centre and a centre of the national liberation movement activists in Bulgaria.
There are amazing natural and historical landmarks as The archeological reserve “Ivanovo rock churches”, The “Tcherven”, the Bassarbovo rock monastery, The Wooden park “Lipnik”, The Park zone around the hut “Prista”, The island “Ljuljak”, The Cave “Orlova tchuka”.
Other interesting places to visit are The canyons of "Polomie", The cave "Orlova tchuka" , The rocky churches of Ivanovo and The Castle of "Cherven". The rocky churches in Ivanovo are included in the UNESCO - world natural and cultural heritage list.
In the eastern part of the Danube plane, just about 20 km south of Rousse, is situated a unique and picturesque site – The Nature Park “Rusenski Lom”. Excellent opportunities for bird observation, hiking, riding and biking.
Bassarbovo monastery is the only active k monastery in Bulgaria that is built-in the rocks. It is situated in the canyon of the river Lom. |
