Location:
The town of Elena is located in the Central Balkan Mountain. The town lies in the lovely valley of the Elena River. The Nature has been pretty benevolent to this region.
The distance to Veliko Turnovo is 38 km, to the Bulgarian capital Sofia – 280 km and 230 km to Varna.
Climate: It has an exclusive mountain climate featuring mild winters with about 120 sunny days. Elena has a continental climate with short springs, hot summers (average temp 20 - 30°C) and long sunny autumns.
Sightseeing:
Hiking fans will be surprised by the number of picturesque tourist itineraries and eco-friendly paths in the Elena Balkan. Adventurers are given the opportunity of mountaineering, whereas fishing fans have the unique chance of fishing in crystal-clear rivers.
Several architectural ensembles dating back to the Bulgarian National Revival and comprising about 130 old houses have been preserved. The houses have ground floors made of stone and white-washed or wooden walls on the upper floor with protruding bays above.
Elena has managed to preserve most of its architectural heritage. The city clock tower is a remarkable and ingenious monument to culture. The tower is visible from any part of the town. The Popnikolov house was built around 1830. Kamburov Inn served as an inn in the Bulgarian Renaissance and had the functions of a public building. Razsukanov houses are five houses built under the same roof. Jordan Hadjipetkov house hosts an art-gallery taht has a valuable ancient icons collection. |
