Location:
Bourgas is the second biggest town on the Black Sea, situated in the southeastern part of the country. The favourable geographical location and advanced transport infrastructure of Bourgas are good prerequisites for development of tourism and trade.
Bourgas Airport operates regular flights to Sofia every day during the summer season. Flying time to the capital city is 40min. The airport is an international one and sees increased traffic, including charter flights, during the summer. The railway station of Bourgas has connections to all parts of the country. The express train to Sofia takes less than 6 and a half hours. The city's central bus station is located next to the railway station. Buses to the country's largest cities, including Sofia, start from there. There are also a lot of private carriers that offer transport to towns and resorts to the north and south of Bourgas along the coast. There is regular city transport - buses, trolley-buses and route taxis.
Climate: The climate is temperately Mediterranean, with a distinct impact from the Black Sea. The average temperature during the summer is above 25 °C.
Transportation:
The city has a good harbor and is connected by rail, through Sofia, with the general European railroad system. The major part of Bulgaria's Black Sea grain trade passes through Burgas, and trade in other agricultural products is second only to that of Varna.
The District Museum of History, founded in 1925, is one of the interesting tourist sights in the city. Other such places are the Art Gallery and St. Cyril and Methodius Cathedral.
Sightseeing:
The tourists are attracted by the dynamic town life with many cafes, shops and cultural emphases. The surrounding region is chiefly agricultural. The city's fish-processing industry handles most of Bulgaria's fish harvest. Away from the busy centre of the city, the Sea garden is a lovely place to stroll on hot summer days. The park is situated on a hill next to the coast, and is rich in flowers, trees and sculptures.
The lake of Pomorie is located 20 km north of Bourgas. The lake is surrounded by salt-mines and balneo-resorts. The Atanassovo Lake is to the north, too, between the airport and the city. The St. Anastassia Island is 3 nautical miles east of the city. The island has a well-preserved old church. Two famous Bulgarian resorts rich in history and architectural monuments are located close to Bourgas - Nessebur to the north and Sozopol to the south.
