Balchik

  Location:
Balchik is a small seaside town in Northern Bulgaria which combines the romance of its steep streets with the beauty of the sea.
A town and seaside resort, situated terrace-like on a small bay on the Black Sea, 31 km North of Varna and 500 km East from Sofia.
There are regular bus lines from/ to Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Bourgas. Apart from buses, there are numerous taxis and private mini-buses, boats and water transport to other beach resorts on the Black Sea.

Climate: The climate is mild, temperate-continental, similar to that in the famous Mediterranean resorts. The average daytime air temperature during the summer months is 27 °?, sea-water-temperature 21 °?. The summer is long and warm, suitable for sunbathing from May to September.

Sightseeing:
The historical museum of the town is situated on the central square. There is also a small ethnographic museum and a beautiful old church called St. Nikola’s.
The old school, which is quite well preserved, is a further destination for a walk. The coastal alley, which is about 4km long, is also a nice place to stroll. The University Botanic Garden is the biggest and most diverse in the Balkans.
Touzlata located 4 km east of the town is well known for its curative mud, which was the main reason for building a balneotherapy centre there beside two lakes, formed by old landslides. There is a mineral spring with water temperature of above 30 C degrees. Two big camping sites - Sandrino Camping and Beliyat Bryag Camping are also located near Balchik. They offer various opportunities for rest and water sports, clubs, bars, numerous bungalows for tourists without camping equipment, small restaurants and snack-bars for seafood and continental food.
